SST 40 WORKER RENEWAL PACKAGE OPTION 1

Under Local Law 196, construction workers must complete 40 hours of approved on-site safety training to obtain an SST card. The City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) requires workers to take renewal classes after 5 years before the SST card expires. Cardholders must complete 8 hours of additional training to renew their SST Card for another 5 years.

The renewal package for SST workers is designed to meet the training and certification requirements established by DOB. This package includes three courses: the 4-hour NYC DOB Fall Prevention Course, the 2-hour NYC DOB Pre-Task Safety Meeting Course, and the 2-hour Toolbox  Talks Course. By completing this packet, you will be eligible to renew your 40-hour SST Worker Card.

Upon completion of this course, you will receive a SITE SAFETY TRAINING CARD (SST Card).

1. NYC DOB 4-Hour Fall Prevention Course:

• Learn about fall hazards and their prevention.

• Develop the ability to assess and respond to fall-related emergencies effectively.

2. NYC DOB 2-Hour Pre-Task Meetings:

• Develop a heightened awareness of potential construction hazards and learn strategies to proactively identify and mitigate them, promoting a safer work environment.
• Strengthen their communication abilities, enabling them to effectively convey safety-related information during pre-task meetings, fostering better teamwork and incident prevention.
• Understanding of relevant construction safety regulations and guidelines, ensuring adherence to legal requirements and minimizing the risk of workplace violations.
• Be better prepared to respond to emergencies or unexpected safety challenges, reducing the likelihood of accidents and injuries on the construction site.

3. NYC DOB 2-Hour Toolbox Talks

• Develop a heightened awareness of construction-related safety issues and hazards, enabling them to recognize potential risks and take proactive measures to mitigate them during toolbox talks.
• Improve communication abilities, enabling you to lead engaging and informative toolbox talks
• Understanding of relevant safety standards and regulations specific to construction, ensuring that toolbox talks address compliance requirements and promote a safer work environment.
• Be better equipped to identify potential safety gaps and develop strategies to prevent accidents and incidents on the construction site through effective toolbox talk meetings.
