8-Hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor Refresher

This 8-hour Suspended Scaffolding Supervisor Refresher Course refreshes students' knowledge of how to safely perform tasks on suspended scaffolds. To continue performing work from suspended scaffolds in New York City, individuals are required to renew their 32 Hour Suspended Supervisor Certification every 4 years per the 2014 New York City Building Codes, part 3314.4.4.5.4. You can renew your 8-hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor or 32-Hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor card within 1 year of its expiration date by taking this class. In accordance with the suspended scaffolding regulation, if you are unable to complete this class within the year your card expires, you will no longer be eligible to participate in this refresher class and will be required to complete the initial 32-hour course. 

Training will include instructions on how to identify basic scaffold components and execute safe erection and disassembly of equipment, how to properly inspect suspended scaffold equipment, and fall protection when working with scaffolds. Students are required to participate in all class exercises, which must include the use of various types of suspended scaffolding and rigging operations.

Upon completion of this course, you will receive an 8-hour supported scaffolding supervicor certificate on your worker wallet card if you do not already have it.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to

• Understand the essential components and equipment on a suspended scaffold 
• Identify hazardous conditions in relating to suspended scaffolds
• Understand how to prevent or minimize potential suspended scaffold hazards
• Describe NYC Department of Buildings regulations and OSHA regulations pertaining to suspended scaffolds
• Understand how to inspect and attach personal fall arrest systems used on suspended scaffolds
• Apply appropriate knots and hitches to hoisting and fall protection equipment 
• Construct wire rope termination for hoisting rope on suspended scaffolds

3. Active participation in all class exercises (determined by course instructor)
4. Completion of required post-quiz assessment
5. As applicable, achievement of minimum passing score on required end-of-course examination
6. Participation and submittal of end-of-course evaluation form (must provide name on form to receive credit)
