    40-Hour Site Safety Training

    Course Description

According to the NYC Construction Codes - Title 28 General Administrative provisions, to qualify as a Site Safety Manager and/or Coordinator, applicants must submit a certificate of completion for the 40-hour safety certification. Similarly, in line with Title 1 Rules of the City of New York 3301-02, those seeking to register as a Construction Superintendent must also provide a certification of completion for the 40-hour Site Safety Course.

For further details on how to become a Site Safety Manager, Site Safety Coordinator, or Site Superintendent, please visit the Department of Buildings website.

Beginning July 1st, 2016, New York City implemented a new requirement that mandates projects requiring site-safety plans—specifically buildings 15 stories or higher—to employ a site safety manager who has completed construction safety manager training, a designated rigging foreman, rigger, or a qualified safety professional to oversee site safety on the project.

The site safety manager course is a comprehensive review of Chapter 33 and the Rules of the City of New York pertaining to public protection. This course aims to equip prospective candidates with safe job practices in New York City and prepares them for the Site Safety Manager’s test.

Throughout the course, students will learn about the hazards associated with the New York City construction safety environment and the specific methods and work practices necessary for urban construction sites.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive a 40-hour Site Safety certificate on their SST card.

    Learning Objectives

After completing this 40-hour safety certification, which is a NYC DOB approved site safety manager course, you should be able to: Compare the roles and responsibilities of New York City Department of Buildings licensed site safety professionals; recognize the rules and regulations, as well as the reasons why they were established; identify various safety practices and procedures designed to protect the public and property during construction and demolition operations in NYC; describe proper communication procedures between licensed safety professionals and the New York City Department of Buildings; distinguish between the OSHA standards and New York City construction safety regulations outlined in Chapter 33; and identify potential fire hazards along with prevention methods that comply with the New York City Fire Code.

    CEUs Requirements

To earn your 40-hour safety certification, you must achieve 100% attendance in the course. This includes the completion of the Continuing Education and Training Registration Form and active participation in all class exercises, as determined by the course instructor. Additionally, you are required to complete pre-and post-quiz assessments and, if applicable, achieve a minimum passing score on the end-of-course examination. Lastly, participation in and submission of the end-of-course evaluation form is essential for credit, and you must provide your name on the form to receive recognition for your efforts in the New York City construction safety site safety manager course.
